Happy New Year people of the Deespeakable Community! Wait….. are we really in a new decade? Mad oh!
God is indeed good, faithful and true to His words. Like my Father in the Lord said, it is going to be a year filled with victories and joy. Can I get an amen?
I am mostly excited because of God’s grace and His mercies you guys, it’s the only reason why we are here.
As we push through the new year officially as a blog and a family, it is our tradition to get our minds set for the year. So I will start by telling you all something I discovered.
Last month, I was reflecting and I realized that some of us only do true reflections at the end of the year. You set goals at the beginning, resolutions, new year new me and all that. Somehow, you feel really excited and pumped up along the first three months, then procrastination sets in. You begin to push things forward, you start letting things slide because it is the middle of the month or because it is a few days to a new month. You tell yourself “let’s leave it till next month” then the months begin to go by till it’s December and you are counting down to the next year. As the new year approaches you to begin to feel disappointed in yourself, you begin to ask yourself if the year was worth it an all.
I totally understand, trust me, I did it too. Somehow, we lose our zeal and courage when this does not go the way we want it to. I was thinking about goals; the ones I hope to carry out this year, the ones I could not carry out last year, mostly the ones I could not carry out last year, and I realized that the major cause of those things was fear, anxiety, procrastination. The Holy Spirit sort of brought that to my attention, I initially tried to argue, then I realized it is indeed the truth!
As much as I feel weird talking about it, I struggle with fear, anxiety and a little bit of an esteem issue. It really gets depressing, knowing that you have the ability to do something but you do not because of all the negative thoughts and the what-ifs running through your mind. He went on to tell me that I have been empowered with everything I need to succeed, all I had to do was TAKE A STEP….DO SOMETHING….
Like my brother rightly said, this is the year of “Doing” and I take that as a confirmation. This is the year to being intentional about everything. I mean everything! The kind of job you want to have, the things you want to achieve, the relationship you want to have with God, your family, your friends, your partner, your spouse.
Being intentional has nothing to do with your mood, your surroundings, circumstances, etc. You just have it at the back of your mind that you want to, and you need to do this regardless of anything, and most importantly….trust God crown your efforts.
I have also learned that, if setting long term goals overwhelm you, you take it one day at a time or one month at a time.
Subsequently, I will be featuring people and posts on ways to set and achieve your goals this year.
Happy New Year once again!
